A message from Professor David Wilkinson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Corporate Engagement and Advancement
Why should I donate to the University?

People donate for a variety of reasons. Some wish to support specific causes such as research into medical or scientific priorities, or create scholarships to promote learning opportunities for specific groups of students. Others want to create a legacy that will support future generations of students and see it as a way of saying thank you for their education at Macquarie and an opportunity to give back. Many donors want to make a tangible contribution to the development of new technologies and skills, or promote teaching outcomes by establishing professorial positions or endowed chairs.

All donations and support are gratefully received and all play an important role in supporting and shaping the future of our University.

How much should I give?

Every little bit helps, so whatever you feel comfortable with. A regular donation is the best way to show your support because it allows the University to plan for the future with a known source of income for scholarships. For example, a monthly donation of $40 adds up to $480 in one year which roughly equates to the cost of textbooks for a student.

One-off donations also make a difference. As well as supporting our Equity Scholarships Appeal, there are many other ways you can benefit students and the community by supporting Macquarie University. You can make a gift today or leave a gift in your Will to benefit future generations.

One hundred per cent of the funds you donate will support equity scholarships and help students with their education and living costs. All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.

How Do I Make a Donation to the University?

All forms of donation are welcomed. You can make an online donation or in the form of cash, credit card, cheque, gift in-kind, pledge or bequest. Click here to access the printable donation form. Gifts in-kind may include any non-monetary donations such as art, books, collections, equipment or shares. Contact the Office of Advancement for more information at [email protected] or +61 2 9850 4278 .

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, all gifts to Macquarie University are tax-deductible. Macquarie University, as a higher education institution, has Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Status under the criteria laid down by the Australian Taxation Office. All gifts are acknowledged with a written receipt. The Office of Advancement will work within the Universities Australia (previously AVCC) code of Practice for Australian University Philanthropy.

How will my donation be used?

Your donation will be used to help students in need of financial aid. You can help disadvantaged students to meet their education and living expenses while at Macquarie and ultimately, to reach their full potential by donating to one of the following:

Macquarie Education Costs Scholarships ($4938 per year for up to four years indexed annually) is available for students who are financially disadvantaged, from an Indigenous background, are sole parents, have carer responsibility, have a long-term medical condition, are disabled, or are from a non-English speaking background to assist with the day-to-day costs of being a student.

Macquarie Accommodation Scholarships ($9878 per year for up to four years indexed annually) is available to students from remote and rural Australia, or city students with a compelling case, to assist them to live on campus or close to the University. If we can meet the accommodation costs for disadvantaged students to live on or near campus they are far more likely to complete their degree and do well in their studies.

Macquarie Unrestricted Equity Scholarships supports equity initiatives at the discretion of the Vice-Chancellor. The fund allows for a flexible response to student needs which may not be covered by other scholarships.

Macquarie Indigenous Scholarships ($4938 per year for up to four years indexed annually) These scholarships assist Indigenous students from low socio-economic backgrounds, with costs associated with higher education.

What is the Macquarie University Foundation and how does it work?

The Macquarie University Foundation oversees and encourages the University's fundraising and development efforts. The Foundation sits under the umbrella of the University Council and all donations to the University are directed through the University Foundation to the various projects and areas designated for support.

How will my donation be acknowledged?

All gifts are acknowledged with a written receipt, in the Donor Roll and appropriately acknowledged as per/within Macquarie University's donation policies.

Can I defer my donation?

If you would like to donate but would prefer to defer your gift, you may like to consider a bequest in your Will. To request our bequest booklet, contact our Planned Giving Manager Anne Peedom on +61 2 9850 1392 or email [email protected] .
